How to download Instagram media on iPhone

Use Safari and the built-in Files app—no browser extension or Instagram password required.

  1. 1

    Open the public post

In Instagram, open the Reel, video, photo, or Story that you are allowed to save.

  2. 2

    Copy its link

Tap Share, then choose Copy link. If the option is not visible, open the More menu.

  3. 3

    Open the downloader in Safari

Return to this site in Safari and place the cursor in the link field.

  4. 4

    Paste and process

Paste the URL, select Download, and wait for the result card.

  5. 5

    Open the available media

Tap the media download action. Safari may open a preview before saving.

  6. 6

    Find the file

Check the Downloads folder in the Files app. You can move or share it from there.

Common questions

Where does Safari save the file?

Usually in the Downloads folder in Files, either under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone depending on Safari settings.

Why did the media open instead of download?

Cross-origin files may open in a browser preview. Use Safari's Share menu and choose Save to Files.

Do I need a separate iPhone app?

No. The workflow runs in Safari. Do not install an app or profile that asks for your Instagram password.
